In a case of amnesia, not all memory is impaired to the same extent. Describe the pattern of memory loss, which is expected in the amnesic syndrome, and how different types of memory can be tested.

  1. The terms are used to classify the symptoms, rather than indicating a cause or causes. Both types of amnesia may coexist in the same patient, and often the result of the influence of drugs or damage to brain regions most closely associated with episodic / declarative memory: the temporal lobe including the hippocampus.
